Popular and lightweight, the Spyderco Para Military 2 folding knife is renowned for its excellent build quality and adaptability. Although the knife has sturdy handles, some users might want to change the scales on their Spyderco PM 2 to make it more unique. It can be a satisfying and easy do-it-yourself effort to replace the scales, whether you want to improve for looks or functionality.
I make wooden scales, sometimes known as wood handles, specifically for the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Since I frequently get asked how to replace the scales on these knives, I decided to create a video explaining the procedure.

Items needed for disassembly:
- Work tray (optional)
- Mini Torx Screwdriver with T6, T9 and T10 Bits
- Threadlocker (Loctite) Blue Gel (Optional)
- Tweezers (Optional)

Step-by-Step Disassembly Process:

Work Area:
Make sure the knife is dry, and clean before starting the scale replacement procedure. To prevent losing any tiny parts, operate on a maintenance tray or work mat in a well-lit, orderly area.

Prepare Replacement Scales:
If you haven't already, choose the replacement scales you want to install.

Detach Pocket Clip (if applicable):
Remove the pocket clip from the original scales.

Disassemble the first side of the Spyderco PM2:
Use the Torx screwdriver set to remove the screws securing the current scales. Spyderco  Paramilitary 2 knives use T9 and T10 Torx screws, so having the right size is crucial to avoid damaging the screws. Carefully unscrew and remove the the pivot screw and housing screw from side one of your knife scales, keeping track of any washers or spacers. Use a plastic prybar if necessary to remove the inner metal liner for the scales.

Install the Replacement Spyderco Scales:
Insert the the old metal liner into the new scales and place the new scale/liner combo onto the knife , aligning the screw holes with those on the knife. Insert and lightly tighten the screws.

Side Two:
Follow the above step a second time for replacing the scales on side two of you Spyderco PM2

Tighten Screws:
Use the Torx screwdriver to fully tighten the screws, gradually going around and ensuring even pressure. If desired, apply a small amount of Loctite to the screws before tightening to prevent them from coming loose over time.

Check for Smooth Operation:
Open and close the knife several times to ensure the blade moves smoothly without any obstructions. If necessary, adjust the tightness of the screws until the action feels comfortable.

Reinstall the Belt Clip

Clean and Polish:
Once satisfied with the assembly, use a cleaning cloth to wipe down the entire knife, removing any fingerprints or debris.
